With the abundance of so-called lifestyle entrepreneurs flaunting their (likely nonexistent) wealth on social media, it’s hard to get an accurate understanding of what the virtual coaching lifestyle is really like.
Sure, there are plenty of Instagram worthy moments that you will experience, but what does a “Day in the life” look like on your average Monday?
When the vacations end and work begins, what can you realistically expect from your new calling?
I’ve spent five years as a virtual coach, building a 7-figure business and becoming a best selling author in the process.
I don’t say this to brag, but rather to illustrate that I’ve walked the walk so that I have the authority to talk the talk.
What I’m about to share with you isn’t some cookie cutter Snapchat version of the virtual coaching lifestyle.
What I’m about to share with you is my reality, day in and day out.
It might not be as sexy as some of the social media entrepreneurs that you see scuba diving in Thailand, but I promise you that it is the reality that you can expect to live if you join me on this journey to become a virtual coach.
Let’s dive in.
A Full-Time Income from a Part-Time Work Load
It’s 8:37 a.m.
I wake up to the soft morning sunlight peeking through my shades and slowly slide out of the bed being careful not to wake up my girlfriend who’s still sleeping next to me.
I grab my phone and walk to the kitchen to prepare my organic coffee and a green smoothie.
After taking my phone off of airplane mode, I begin flipping through the notifications that I received while I was asleep.
I respond to a few questions from employees and friends, accept an invitation to a party in the Hollywood Hills and then check my Stripe account.
While I was sleeping my company did more than $1,472 in revenue.
Considering that I’d been on the verge of registering for food stamps only 24 months prior, this feels pretty damn good.
I smile to myself and begin my morning routine to prepare for a long day of masterminding with other entrepreneurs, enjoying lunches on the beach in San Diego, CA (writing off the lunch as “meals and entertainment” expense), working out at a premium gym then taking my girlfriend out on the town, and connecting with my employees and clients.
This is my life…
I don’t wake up to an alarm. I give myself the gift of waking up when my body is ready.
My mornings are peaceful and filled with intention and presence. I don’t have to fight my way out of the house in a hurried frenzy, eating breakfast in the car while I desperately pray that I make it to work on time.
I don’t have to be anywhere that I don’t want to be.
I work when I want, where I want, with whom I want and even if I want to work at all for the day.
I’m in control of my schedule and my life.
And the best part is that I get to enjoy all of this freedom while making more than 10X the income that I earned from my retail job.
As a virtual coach, you get to experience the best of lifestyle design.
You get to set your own hours, build a schedule that fits your lifestyle, and earn whatever income you want and decide which client’s you want to work with or FIRE!
As a new coach, you can typically charge $50-$150/hour for your services meaning that you can earn more than $50,000/year working less than 10 hours a week!
And if you’re serious about creating financial freedom for yourself and living life on your terms you can always increase the workload until you are earning $100,000+/year and beyond plus earn most of this with passive income with books, online courses, and membership sites.
This doesn’t mean that becoming a virtual coach is easy.
You will have to put in some hours on the front end to get your business off the ground, sign up your first few clients, and help them get results FAST.
However, once you have the foundations in place, the rest is up to you.
You set the hours. You decide who you want to work with. You decide how you spend your days.
And I can tell you from personal experience, there’s no greater gift that you can give yourself than the gift of freedom.
The Flexibility to Live Life On Your Terms
When I worked in retail management, my days were, more or less, the same.
I woke up at the same time, drove the same way to work, stayed at the store until 6 p.m. then came home, turned on the TV and crashed out with a few bottles of beer.
Sure, I was alive and living the “American Dream” with a stable job, decent growth and good medical benefits but I wasn’t truly living.
I was existing.
I was floating through each day on autopilot.
It was groundhog day all over again.
As a virtual coach, I never know what each week will bring.
Outside of a few set-in-stone meetings with key employees, I never know what I will be doing or who I will have the pleasure of meeting.
I often find myself taking last-minute flights across the country to attend a party with someone like Tai Lopez or Brandon Carter.
I’ll spend a whole day eating tacos with kick-ass entrepreneurs like Noah Kagan founder of appsumo.
And sometimes, I decide that I don’t want to do anything except yoga on the beach and a relaxing evening with my girlfriend.
As a virtual coach, I am the master of my fate and the captain of my soul.
No one can tell me what to do, where to be, or how to show up.
I am in control of my life and my schedule.
I get to spend my days doing things that I enjoy and I can make money in a way that adds value to my life and the life of my clients instead of making it feel like a dreary and monotonous grind.
The Benefits of Having Financial Freedom to Do What You Want
When I worked in retail, I was a slave to money.
Every time a new month rolled around I would nervously check my bank account wondering if I would be able to pay bills on time.
My schedule and leisure time was determined by the contents of my bank account that day, not what I wanted to do.
I was a slave to money.
As a virtual coach, I now put my money to work for me and no longer have to worry about paying the bills.
I’ve achieved the coveted “Financial Freedom”.
It’s really about having the money that you need to do what you want to do – and when you want to do it.
And, to most people’s surprise, this number is a lot smaller than you might imagine.
With my current income, I’m no longer forced to say “Yes” to things to which I’d rather say “No”.
I no longer have to work with pain in the ass clients. I don’t have to kill myself working on an extra project to make spare cash. I don’t have to work overtime in order to afford a vacation.
I have the financial resources to say “Yes” or “No” to just about anything that I want.
As a virtual coach, you’re not tied down to a certain location, certain job, or people to work with.
You know that you are going to be okay with or without the money because you work online and there is always an abundance of potential clients.
For most people, their job or top paying client becomes a rat race that they can’t escape.
They don’t enjoy what they do but the money is too good to walk away.
The virtual coaching lifestyle solves this once and for all.
When you have multiple streams of income from multiple clients, products, and assets, you have the power to do what you want, when you want, how you want to do it.
Making a Real Impact on People’s Lives
The biggest life hack of all is to get paid to do something you love that changes other people’s lives.
Speaking from experience, it’s rare to find such a position. Most jobs that pay well aren’t fulfilling (bankers, lawyers) and most jobs that are fulfilling don’t pay well (teachers, non-profits).
As a virtual coach, you get the best of both worlds.
Not only can you make an absolute KILLING as a virtual coach (I know guys who charge $5,000/hour+ and are worth every penny) but you also have the opportunity to make a real and visible impact on another person’s life.
You get to watch someone who is struggling to overcome an obstacle in their life and you have the privilege of embarking on the journey with them and witnessing their transformation.
It’s a priceless experience.
When you get to watch someone who is depressed, anxious, and on the verge of giving up hope turn things around, create the life of their dreams, and know that you had a hand in the process, it’s the most amazing experience that a human can have.
We’re all on this rock together and getting to be a part of someone else’s journey is one of the greatest gifts that you can give them… And yourself.
Coaching Isn’t a Job… It’s a Calling
A job drains you, a calling fuels you.
I used to wake up dreading going to my job. I would purposely drive 45mph on a 65mph to prolong my commute to work because I didn’t want to be there.
I know that feeling of hating a job.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. It shouldn’t be that way…
You are going to spend around 30% of your life working.
So why in the hell would you choose to spend that time working on something that you hate?
Why wouldn’t you do something that you love? Something that excites you? Something that gets you out of bed in the morning with a smile on your face, a spring in your step, and a fire in your soul?
Coaching my clients inspires me.
After a coaching call I feel energized and ready for the next one. It’s like waking up from a power nap then drinking a cup of coffee. I’m fired up for the next client or whatever comes next in the day.
Coaching fills my soul whereas working a job drained it.
I look forward to coaching rather than dreading talking to the next client. Imagine working a full 8 hour day and feeling more energized at the end of the day vs when you started the day.
This impacts every other aspect of your life. You show up full of life in your relationships. Monday – Friday is no longer this series of days to get through but a series of days that empower you to be your best self and adds value to your life.
Everyone has some greater gift to share with the world.
What is yours? And will you have the courage to step up and answer the calling?
