Key Points

1. Life is Too Darn Short to Be Miserable

As cliche as the modern saying “YOLO” seems or as dated as the ancient Epicurean philosophy of the Greeks sounds; the truth is, we do only live once. And sadly, the “lives” most people are living, are a far cry from what they should be.

We have accepted a deferred life plan that is not our own. We accept societies ideas and axioms without question and without ever pausing to ask what we truly want.

If we want to live live’s that are not only materially successful but also emotionally fulfilling, we must accept the fact that we will die, and live in accordance with that reality. Live the way you want, do what makes you come alive, listen to your heart and go for it, because at the end of the day, we’re all dead anyways…may as well die in style.

2. Success is About Your Values not Materials

All too often, young businessmen and entrepreneurs get sucked into the trap of believing that success is about the accumulation of material bragging rights. The fast cars, over sized houses, playboy mansion keys, and private jets.

What we fail to realize is that some of the richest people alive are also the most miserable. Your focus should be doing what makes you come alive and doing what makes you feel like you are having an impact. The money will follow, but if you want to live a life of fulfillment, it must always be a tertiary priority.

3. You Need a Road-map

If you do not know where you are going, you may end up anywhere. It is imperative to your success that you take time to analyze yourself and find what it is that makes you happy, that brings joy into your life and makes you feel the best. After you have this knowledge, go after those things.

Take an afternoon and go sit outside in a park, write out your ideal life vision, write out your goals, write out where you want to be in 5 years. Just keep writing until your hand cramps up and you can’t write anymore.

If you do this, you will have a basic road map of where you want to go and how to get there.
