“You are the average of the 5 people you spend your most time with.” – Jim Rohn
1. Who You Are With Determines Your Reality
Nothing will determine your success or failure more than the people that you associate with.
As the old saying goes, your network determines your net worth.
If you are consistently surrounding yourself with highly motivated, Grade A+ gamechangers, then you are going to elevate your own standards and goals to meet theirs.
However, if you are surrounded by people with no goals, ambition, or drive, their sloth and laziness will quickly bring you down and degrade your mission and purpose.
You must be intentional about creating a social circle full of people who are playing the game of life on a higher level that you are.
Because the more time you can spend around those who are above you, the quicker you will be able to catapult yourself up to their level.
2. Change Your Environment Change Your Life
If you want to change your life, the best thing that you can do is to change your environment.
So many of our daily habits, routines, and thought patterns are based on our surroundings.
If you show up to work and procrastinate for hours, messing around on Facebook and Instagram, then that pattern will become automatic anytime you show up to the office.
If you wake up every morning and reach for a smoke then getting yourself into a new environment (like a non-smoking Air BnB in another city) is a great way to change your bad habit.
By changing your environment you can reset your mind and body and program them to serve you instead of the other way around.
Even the smallest changes can have a drastic impact.
3. “Should” Is Never a Good Reason to Do Something
We live in a society where people “should” all over themselves.
They should go to college, they should take the higher paying job even though they hate it, they should marry this person, they should do this, they should do that!
“Should” is never a good reason for doing something.
What is a “should” other than society telling you how to live your life?
The only things that you should do are the things that you want to do, the things that will help others, and the thing that will bring you closer to your goals.
If you cannot come up with at least 5 concrete reasons that something is truly essential to your success and happiness and you do not want to do it… then forget about it and move on to something that will light a fire inside of you.
Life is too short to waste on “shoulds”.
Only spend it on things you love.
4. How Could I Not Do This?
Fear can paralyze and delay all of us.
Even the strongest of you reading this with more will power than a Navy SEAL can still succumb to the seeds of doubt that are planted in your mind by the “What If’s”.
What if… your wife leaves you?
What if…. you lose everything?
What if… you fail?
When the creeping monster of “What If” tries to creep under your bed, you need to reframe this fear and doubt by posing one simple question…
“How can I not do this?”
If what you are scared of is truly in alignment with your deepest purpose and desires on this planet, then how could you not go after them and risk everything?
How could you not pursue your dreams, chase your passion, and follow your bliss?
How could you not be all that you were born to be?
5. Figure Out How You Can Offer Value and Then Do That
Success flows to those who offer value.
This is an immutable law of the universe.
Yes, there are men who earn tremendous amounts of money by conning and lying to people (Berni Madoff comes to mind).
But you will notice a pattern with these men… It never lasts.
The only way to achieve true lasting success is by offering real value.
So now the question remains, “How can you offer value to the world?”
What unique skills or abilities do you posses? What message does the world need to hear? What change can you bring about to help humanity and serve the world?
Once you have found an answer to this question, there is only one thing left.
Go out and do it.
